68-Hour Hybrid Medication Aide Class

The 68-Hour Hybrid Medication Aide Class is approved and governed by the Virginia Board of Nursing, this 68 hours Medication Management Training Program will prepare qualified employees to properly administer medications within Assistant Living Facilities (ALF), Adult Day Centers, youth and residential facilities, correctional facilities, and group homes. Under the Drug Control Act of Virginia, Medication Aides are required to be trained in the curriculum approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing before they may provide medication management services. The 68hour Medication Aide can work in an Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Facility. This program DOES qualify participants to take the State Registered Medication Aide Exam. The prerequisites for the 68 hr Medication Aide Course is to successfully complete the 40 hr Direct Care Staff Training required by DSS for ALF employment or a DMAS 40 hr approved Personal Care Assistant (PCA) training program or successfully completed a Board of Nursing approved Nurse Aide (NA) training program (a certification in Nurse Aide (CNA) is not required)

Career Overview
This Medication Aide Program prepares students to safely administer or to assist in client self-administration, medications in specific settings. This class includes lecture, skills lab, and clinical experiences. Students will be able to facilitate or assist the client with the administration of insulin, prepare for safe administration of medications to clients in assisted living facilities, maintain aseptic conditions, understand basic pharmacology, follow appropriate procedures for documentation and much more!
